This chess set package includes a set of our Deluxe Old Club Staunton chess pieces in rosewood and boxwood together with our Classic Mahogany and Maple Chess Board and Classic Mahogany Chess Box. Our Deluxe Old Club is an ageless classic that for years has been a favorite with players for its distinguishable knight and traditional Staunton design. The Deluxe Old Club is often displayed on the front cover of countless chess books and has been used for plastic chess set models because of its popularity with club and tournament players. This is a tournament size set with a 3.75” tall king and a base of 1.625”. Pieces have green billiard cloth pads for a soft landing on the chess board and are nicely weighted for stability. We include 2 spare queens for pawn promotion and a certificate of authenticity so you will always know what the chess set is, where it came from, and when it was made.
Our Classic Mahogany and Maple chess board is an excellent choice for matching with rosewood and boxwood chess pieces. The rosewood pieces have a rich burgundy-brown color that look stunning against the warm orange-brown color of the mahogany. This is an inlaid chess board with the finest wood veneers and is handcrafted to exacting standards. The board is sealed in a satin polyurethane finish to protect the wood. An extra wide frame adds substantial size to the chess board and provides enough room for sitting captured pieces while a black inlay border creates a sharp delineation surrounding the playing area. The squares are 2.25" and the board measures 21" overall.
The chess box is wonderfully constructed and reminiscent of the old heirloom quality chess boxes from many years ago. The box is covered in mahogany veneer and the interior is lined with a thick green baize just like we use for the pads on our chess pieces. The box has a divider in the center for storing the black and white pieces separately. We used high quality recessed hinges and a brass plated lock for securing the lid. We include 2 keys in case one ever gets lost.
