The Reykjavik draws inspiration from the chess set used by the legendary American Grandmaster Bobby Fischer when he beat reigning world champion and Grandmaster Boris Spassky in the 1972 World Chess Championship in Reykjavik, Iceland. This is a thirty-four-piece set that includes two extra queens for pawn promotion. The padauk and boxwood pieces have a gloss lacquer that both protects and enhances the beauty of the wood. The king is 3.75" tall with a base diameter of 1.625", the perfect size for tournament chess games. Heavily weighted for exceptional stability, the pieces have thick green baize pads for a soft cushion on the chess board. We include a Certificate of Manufacturer so you will always know what the pieces are, when they were made, and where they came from.
Our Padauk and Bird’s-Eye Maple Molded Edge Chess Board made for us by Rechapados Ferrer combines classic design with elegant features creating an eye-catching battlefield for your chess game. This is an inlaid chess board handcrafted from high quality padauk and bird’s-eye maple burl veneer sealed with a matte polyurethane finish. A wide black delimiter defines the playing field, and a wide frame gives aesthetic balance to the board. The molded edge surrounding the chess board enhances the beautiful color of the padauk. The squares are 2” and the footprint of the board is 19.5” square. Four felt pads on the bottom will protect whatever furniture the board sets on.
