This traditional chess set includes our British Staunton with African padauk and boxwood pieces matched with our Padauk and Bird's Eye Maple Molded Edge Chess Board. Our British Staunton originates from the old British Chess Company design from years ago. This chess set features a sleek profile and a beautifully carved knight that is a bit smaller than average. The king is 4 inches tall and has a 1.625" base. The pieces are heavily weighted and have thick green baize pads for a soft feel on the chess board. We include two extra queens for pawn promotion.
Our exclusive Padauk and Bird's-eye Maple Chess Board was specifically designed to pair with our padauk chessmen. This is a handcrafted inlaid chess board made for us by Rechapados Ferrer. The quality of both the materials and workmanship in the construction of the chess board are simply unmatched. The squares are 55 mm (~2.125") and the overall size of the board is 21.5" and .5" thick. A wide black inlay border accentuates the playing area enhancing the rich colors of the African padauk and bird's-eye maple and a black stained molded edge adds an elegant touch to the chess board. The wood is sealed with a satin polyurethane finish that gives the board a soft shine.
