African padauk is one the most colorful woods in the world ranging in color from a burnt orange to burgundy and polishes to an amazing luster. This is a large set with a 3.5" king with a base diameter of 1.625". The pieces are triple weighted for exceptional stability on the chess board and have thick green baize pads for easily sliding from square to square and a soft feel when placing. We include 2 spare queens for pawn promotion and a certificate of authenticity so you will always know what the chess set is, where it came from, and when it was made.
Our exclusive Padauk and Bird's-eye Maple Chess Board was specifically designed to pair with our padauk chessmen. This is a handcrafted inlaid chess board made for us by Rechapados Ferrer. The quality of both the materials and workmanship in the construction of the chess board are simply unmatched. The squares are 50 mm (~2") and the overall size of the board is 19.5" and .5" thick. A wide black inlay border accentuates the playing area enhancing the rich colors of the African padauk and bird's-eye maple and a black stained molded edge adds an elegant touch to the chess board. The wood is sealed with a satin polyurethane finish that gives the board a soft shine.
