We introduced our Fierce Knight Series handcrafted chess set back in 2001 and it was an instant hit with the chess community. The name we gave this set accurately describes the knight with its fierce countenance captured by the detailed sculpture of its perked ears, eyes, nose, and mouth. This is the midsize version of the Fierce Knight with a 3.5” king and a base diameter of 1.625”. Pieces are made from genuine ebony and boxwood and are heavily weighted for exceptional stability on the chess board. Thick green baize pads on the bottom create a soft cushion and allow the pieces to slide smoothly across the chess board. From top to bottom the pieces have a graceful profile and elegant shape creating a cohesive design from king to pawn. We include two extra queens for pawn promotion and a certificate of authenticity so you will always know what the chess set is, what the wood is, where it came from, and when it was made. The Fierce Knight continues to be one of our most popular Staunton chess sets.

The pieces are beautifully executed, flawless and hefty. Packing: Foam wrapped pieces, wrapped with rubber band, in plastic bag, with desiccant, in a sectioned cardboard box, packed in styro peanuts, within another box. The set arrived in Boston from Oregon in four working days.

Superb quality pieces. Can you tell me whether these are hand carved or CNC? Either way - I am very pleased with this set. Now ....... if they would only improve my game;)

this set is made with high quality materials and finish, and a hefty base weight gives the pieces stability and presence. i looked at several sets online and these seemed to me the most elegantly designed; the "fierce knight" closely resembles the elgin marble sculpture on which the original cook/jaques set was modeled, the bishop's miter gash is attractively minimized, and the profiles of all the pieces are crisply defined. a real pleasure to own. pieces came in separate zip plastic bags with protective foam wrap around the king, queen and knights.
