Our magnificent new Cyrus Staunton is a large club size chess set with unique and elegant features extending Staunton design well beyond the ordinary. This beautiful Staunton chess set is named for Cyrus the Great, King of the Persian Empire that conquered both the Median and Babylonian empires. Cyrus was one of the great military strategists of all time and we think an appropriate name with which to honor this chess set. All of the pieces are unique in their shape and have detail unlike any other Staunton chess set. The knight is artistically designed with elegant and intricate features that are meticulously hand carved including the eyes, nostrils, mouth, teeth and a flared mane which creates movement. The king is 4.4" tall and features an ornate finial that is unique from any chess set in our collection. The lathe work is extraordinary with compound collars and graceful precisely turned into the base of each piece. The pawns are extra-large making them easy to handle during your game. The pieces are heavily weighted with green baize pads for a soft and cushioned feel on the chess board. Pieces are hand carved from ebony, a gorgeous jet black, and the light amber color boxwood; each polished to a beautiful luster. Whether you are a collector or looking for a very special chess set, we know you will be thoroughly pleased when you select the Cyrus Staunton!

A great move for my chess table.

Posted by steve williams on 3rd Jan 2020

I had a hand-me-down chess table and chess set from my father-in-law. The problem was trying to remember which piece was what sense the design of the pieces were a bit abstract. and the color between the black and white was about the same. Thus I researched and out the best place to buy a new chess set! The problem was too many to choose from. This is the best place to buy a set from! lower end to very very nice set which I picked! Now I'm a very happy chess player. the problem is now I can't blame the chess set for losing a game.
