This colorful and luxurious chess set includes our Vienna Coffee House antique reproduction chess pieces in a high gloss red and natural boxwood finish matched with our Red and Maple Deluxe Chess Board. The Vienna Coffee House is elegant and has a unique design based on the sets produced in the early 1900's in Austria. There were many iterations of the basic design and our approach was to take the best elements from the most attractive models and create a chess set that had the best of everything. Our chess pieces are more refined and much higher quality than would have been available with the original sets. This is large set with a 4" tall king and a base diameter of 1.7". The knights are wonderfully carved with handsome features and fine detail. Pieces are nicely weighted and have green baize pads for a soft feel on the chess board. We include 2 extra queens for pawn promotion.
This beautiful chess board is made for us by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain and the craftsmanship of the inlay work is remarkable. You will love the way the wood grain shows through the red stain so you don't lose the wood effect. We added a solid black pinstripe around the playing area along with an extra wide frame. The high gloss polyurethane finish further enhances the color and beauty of the chess board by creating a glass-like appearance that matches the chess pieces perfectly.
