Our Reykjavik Series handcrafted chess set is the same one used by the legendary American Grandmaster Bobby Fischer when he beat reigning world champion and Grandmaster Boris Spassky in the 1972 World Chess Championship in Reykjavik, Iceland. These handsome pieces have traditional Staunton features and are a favorite for chess players wanting a set that will stand up to the rigor of frequent use. These are ebonized and natural boxwood pieces with a traditional polished lacquer finish and are heavily weighted for superior balance and stability on the chess board. The king is 3.75" tall and has a base diameter of 1.625", the perfect size for tournament chess games. Thick green billiard cloth pads let the pieces slide smoothly across the chess board and a quite soft feel when sitting down. We include two extra queens for pawn promotion and a certificate of authenticity so you will always know what the chess set is and where it came from. Playing chess with these special pieces from the past will add a special satisfaction to every game you play, whether you win or lose.
