This large and handsome chess set is named for General George S. Patton of the United States Army. Patton successfully led many critical military campaigns during world war II including the Battle of the Bulge. Patton possessed a colorful, fiery image and he had a hard-driving personality that his men loved. A worthy name for the battles that will be fought and won with this chess set. This features an extraordinary knight with graceful lines and intricate detail carved including a flared mane, eyes, nostrils, mouth and teeth. The king is 4.25" tall and features an ornate finial that is unique from any other chess set in our collection. The lathe work is extraordinary with compound collars and eloquent lines precisely turned into the base of each piece. Pieces are heavily weighted and have green baize pads for a soft and cushioned feel on the chess board. The ebony is jet black and polished to a beautiful luster as is the light amber color boxwood.
Our Black and Ash Burl High Gloss Deluxe Chess Board goes perfect with ebony and boxwood chess pieces. Imported from Spain, this is an inlaid chess board made for us by Rechapados Ferrer. The black and golden color of the natural ash burl are enhanced by the high gloss, glass-like finish creating an elegant backdrop for the ebony and boxwood chess pieces. A pinstripe delimiter around the squares and an extra-wide frame adds an elegant look to the board. The squares are 2.355" with the chess board measuring 23.5" x 23.5”.
