From our Staunton by Design Collection, our Decorative Parker Staunton in burnt boxwood and boxwood offers a traditional Staunton chess set with a unique design and finish. It has a classic style with handsome knights that have the look and feel of the older Jaques designs. To create the black, chess pieces are actually burnt followed by the final carving and design work which creates a beautiful contrast in colors between the blackened areas and the natural golden wood colors underneath. Chess pieces are then finished in high gloss lacquer giving the chess pieces a glass-like finish. A wonderful set for a casual game of chess or tournament play.

Extreme Quality; Inconsistent Burning on Some Pieces
One white bishop is slightly over-burned at the tip, while the other is slightly under-burned. 1 white pawn & 3 black pawns are overly-darkened on or about the middle or cross-hatch mitre cuts on the pedestal. Black knight slightly darkened on its light torso indentations. Fantastic build, feel, weight, shape, & smell. A pleasure to play with. Burning is a tough and gorgeous process but wish it was slightly more consistent coloration. 4 stars.

Missing Piece
I ordered the pieces but upon arrival I noticed that one single pawn was missing and after reaching out to let them know they said they would fix it and its only been 6 days now but upon trying to reach back out I haven't received a response. I'm still confident that they will fix things but until then I gotta give it a 4 star.

Sometimes you shouldn’t rush things
Everything is fine except one bishop, it was as if while building and molding someone had cracked the wood and they used some apoxy to fix it. It is clearly visible and a little disappointing. Other than that good piece
