From our Staunton by Design Collection, our Decorative Parker Staunton in burnt boxwood and boxwood offers a traditional Staunton chess set with a unique design and finish. It has a classic style with handsome knights that have the look and feel of the older Jaques designs. To create the black, chess pieces are actually burnt followed by the final carving and design work which creates a beautiful contrast in colors between the blackened areas and the natural golden wood colors underneath. Chess pieces are then finished in high gloss lacquer giving the chess pieces a glass-like finish. A wonderful set for a casual game of chess or tournament play.

    This chess set is very ornate and it is a show stopper. Very beautiful and. I would have guessed the price to be well over $200.00. The workmanship is outstanding. You have to see and feel each piece. I have a nice tournament sized in black and white. When I go into a chess club to play, it stops people and everyone and they ask me where I bought and what I paid for the set. There are nothing but great comments. They look much better in person than in a picture. Buy these, you will be so happy, I guarantee it.

    Do not miss out on these pieces, they are sensational looking and quite heavy. They are absolutely magnificent looking. The play between the white and black pieces from a color point of view were incredible. Extremely beautiful. Buy them NOW.

    Very satisfied with this set. Gorgeous looking and one of the most unique sets I have seen, at a great value too. The burnt finish makes it a definite conversation piece and the set is great to play with.

    An heirloom at a reaonable price

    I am a chess lover with many boards and chess sets, and was certainly not looking to buy another one! I first saw this set this summer at the Chess Center in London, and was blown away by its uniqueness and beauty. The weight and heft of the pieces is nice, but the detailed carvings, interplay between colors and the perfection of the finish has to be seen to be believed. The memory of the set stayed with my, such that on my return from London, I felt compelled to find the set here in the US and purchase it. Delivery was fast and the set I received is flawless. I have a beautiful Italian chess table that deserves to be paired with a set of this quality. I suspect the table and set will become family heirlooms. The price is surprisingly reasonable - to be honest, I would have expected this set to cost closer to $1,000. I do not usually leave reviews, but had to make an exception for this unique and breathtaking set.

    I don't get to play chess a lot, but do like the game and always wanted a nice set. I found this set online and instantly fell in love with it! I can tell you it is every bit as magnificent in person! It is so beautiful! $149 seemed to be a great price for such quality. It's storage box is very nice and the weight of the pieces is very nice. Shipping was quite fast--shipped same day as the order! Overall, the set was a great value and I am very happy with TCS. They don't make enough stars for this set! Looks fantastic with the Macassar Ebony/Maple value wood chessboard! It gives the whole set an "African" flair to it. Just awesome!

    Excellent burnt boxwood pieces

    What drew me to this product was that these were the most exquisitely ornate wooden pieces that I had ever seen. The price was a lot lower than I expected so I bought them immediately. When I got them I checked every piece and they were perfect. The box they come in is nice enough to be their permanent home. These chessmen were beyond my expectations. The knight is so well carved he even has teeth! The white pieces also had a very attractive and visible wood grain. Getting two queens was a huge plus. This kind of quality and unique style is unheard of at this price range and I am very happy with my purchase.
