The knights are wonderfully carved with just the right level of detail for a chess set that will get a lot of use. To create the black color the boxwood chess pieces are actually burnt followed by the final carving and design work which creates a beautiful contrast in colors between the blackened areas and the natural golden wood colors underneath. The pieces are sealed in a high-gloss polyurethane finish that gives them an elegant glass like appearance. The king is 3.75" tall and has a base diameter of 1.625" - an ideal tournament size set. The pieces are heavily weighted and have thick green baize pads for a soft feel on the chess board. We include 2 spare queens for pawn promotion and a certificate of authenticity so you will always know what the chess set is, where it came from, and when it was made. Our Deluxe Chess Case has two drawers with individual compartments for storing all 32 chess pieces separately. The compartments are lined on the sides and bottom with a soft beige velour material to protect the pieces from getting scuffed up. The case measures 19" square and is 3" tall. The chess board squares are 2" and are enclosed by an attractive black border. The sides of the case have an elegant molded profile and the board on top is enclosed by a frame.
