Our Grande Staunton was discontinued over 10 years ago to make room for new models. This beautiful set made from padauk and boxwood is the last set in our collection and has been stored away and never used. It is in brand new, prestine condiion.
The Grande has all of the features that an avid chess player and collector looks for in an upper-end Staunton chess set. Pieces have a wide yet elegant profile with a broad base and heavy weighting. The knight is tall and stout with intricate detail. The padauk is gorgeous with a blend of rich colors that range from coral orange to burgundy. The king is 3.5" tall and has a traditional formee cross. The queen has an outward arching crown with 10 points. The bishop has a large miter with an unusually wide slot with rounded corners that you find on only the finest sets. The knight has features such as the eyes, ears, nose, and mouhthat are meticulously carved and perfectly duplicated from knight to knight. The rooks are stout and heavy with a shallow parapet and 6 crenels that are sharply cut. The pawns are tall and have large heads.
