This unique chess set with plastic pieces that look like real wood is modeled after the most popular wood chess set in our collection - The German Knight Staunton. These pieces look and feel like real wood but they're plastic! The German Knight is a favorite for club players and used more than any other set in tournaments. This is one plastic set and is one plastic set that will look good with a wood board. The king is 3.9" tall and has a base diameter of 1.7". The pieces are nicely weighted for exceptional stability on the chess board and we include 2 extra queens for pawn promotion. More chess games have been played with a German Knight than any other chess set in the world and it continues to be our number one selling chess set.

    Solid set

Posted by Dylan on 6th Mar 2023

Solid plastic set - they have a good weight/feel to them. I wouldn't say they feel like wood, but they don't necessarily feel like plastic either. Almost like a weird in-between. I'm not a huge fan of the King's crown, but other than that, solid chess set. I may consider bringing them to a USCF tournament but for now, will use them to play classical matches at my house.

    German knight pieces

The BEST plastic set ever. They don’t feel like plastic at all. Good weight. These are a copy of the FIDE rapid & blitz tournament set. Unless you’re married to wood, get this set. You won’t be disappointed

    Amazing design BUT....

Posted by Mario Lacunza on 12th Jan 2022

The design of the pieces is spectacular, one of the most beautiful I have seen, the quality is AAA. BUT ... don't you have a team to check the quality of the shipment? Many pieces have the bottom green cloth with holes or broken.

    Wood imitation set

Posted by C.J. from California on 17th Dec 2021

Communist set?? The king has not the christianity symbolism, yet the bishops have mitres which pay homage to the catholic church. Anyway, an excellent tournament set. Other vendors have it as the ‘Euro Series’ but pricier.

    Great pieces!

Posted by Dark Knight on 16th Jul 2021

I really love everything about this set. The texture and color are something very unique. I love that this set is measured perfectly for a 2.25 inch square size standard tournament board according to official FIDE rules. If I had to add anything it would be maybe slightly heavier pieces but they are weighted fine I just prefer extra heavy. I give this set a 5 out of 5. Simply amazing set.

    An instant Classic!

Posted by Mr. George Rosado on 28th Jun 2021

I was quite amazed at the natural wood aesthetics and durable feel of the quality plastic this set is comprised and made of a beautiful wood grain pattern that compliments both the light and dark armies. I believe this set will become a best seller and an instant classic with hard core players and collector's alike. The only drawback I have is the set could be a bit heavier perhaps in the 40 ozs. total sett weight but nonetheless this is a very handsomely durable set. If you're on the fence about it have no regrets for it's timeless style, strength beauty and durability of this fine chess set. Bravo The Chess Store! With this set you have "Knocked it out of the Park!"
