This beautiful chess set includes our Copenhagen Staunton in African Padauk and boxwood matched with our Padauk and Bird's Eye Maple Maple Molded Edge Chess Board. This exquisite chess set is named after the stallion rode by the Duke of Wellington during the battle of Waterloo. The Copenhagen is without a doubt one of the most complex and elegant Staunton designs in our collection. The knight's mane is flowing straight back as if running into battle. The knight is beautifully sculpted with realistic features and fine detail including the ears, eyes, nose, mouth. Only the very best carvers in the world can accurately carve and replicate the details of this knight from piece to piece. The other pieces are equally impressive with graceful shapes and and an elegant profile. Only the very best carvers in the world can accurately carve and replicate the details of this knight from piece to piece.

The Copenhagen is a very large set with a 4.5 inch tall king and a base diameter of 1.9 inches. The pieces are made from the highest quality African padauk and boxwood and heavily weighted for good balance and stability on the chess board. The king has two different finials with a press-fit so that you can change from one to other as you please. The pieces have thick green baize pads so you can slide your pieces across the board or sit down softly. We include an extra queen for each color for pawn promotion and a certificate of authenticity so you will always know what the chess set name is, the type of wood, the year it was made, and where it came from.

Our exclusive Padauk and Bird's-eye Maple Chess Board was specifically designed to pair with our padauk chessmen. This is a handcrafted inlaid chess board made for us by Rechapados Ferrer. The quality of both the materials and workmanship in the construction of the chess board are simply unmatched. The squares are 60mm (~2.375") and the overall size of the board is 23.5" and .5" thick. A wide black inlay border accentuates the playing area enhancing the rich colors of the African padauk and bird's-eye maple and a black stained molded edge adds an elegant touch to the chess board. The wood is sealed with a satin polyurethane finish that gives the board a soft shine. This heirloom quality chess set made from exotic woods is not only a good investment for these times but it will make every chess game all the more enjoyable and is sure to become one of your treasured possessions that will be handed down for generations.

    Copenhagen Staunton Chess set

Posted by Andy Morales on 1st Feb 2022

This is by far the best chess that the chess store has to offer in my opinion, pictures of this chess it does not do it justice and how perfect and beautiful it is in real life or in person. Everything is so beautiful and nice that I have to be careful while playing so I won’t drop the pieces or nothing like that. This is the most beautiful Chess set ever and I 100% recommend this to anyone that is a very advanced player. Yes, it is very very expensive but let me tell you it is very very perfect.

    A Dream come true.

This magnificent chess set has surpassed all of my expectations. I recommend it to chess lovers everywhere. The large knights are stunning. The rooks and bishops are also large and imposing. The king and queen are also stunning. Having the choice of two finials for the king is an interesting and fun option. All of the pieces are very heavy and balanced. The padauk pieces are gorgeous with beautiful grain patterns and the tone and grain patterns of the box wood pieces is very pleasing. Both colors go well with the large and attractive board. The customer service at the chess store is second to none. I would not hesitate to do business with them in the future.
