Our British Staunton draws inspiration from a vintage design originating from the old British Chess Company in the mid-1800s. Featuring a purely traditional Staunton design, the pieces are handcrafted from boxwood with the ebonized black pieces polished to an ebony-like finish. This is a thirty-four-piece set that includes two extra queens for pawn promotion. The king is 3.5”-tall with base diameter of 1.” making it ideal for tournament games. The pieces are heavily weighted for exceptional stability and have thick green baize pads on the bottom for a soft cushion on the chess board. We include a Certificate of Manufacturer so you will always know what the pieces are, when they were made, and where they came from.
