Our loose-piece chess box is a great way for storing plastic or wooden chess pieces. The box is made from heavy chipboard (cardboard) and covered on the outside with an attractive black leather-like paper and our logo in gold foil. It has two compartments for separating the pieces and a full telescoping lid the full height of the box so it securely stays on. The overall size is 9" x 7" x 3" and will hold most chess sets up to a 4.25" king like our Zukert Series plastic chess set. The chess box offers an affordable and attractive way to store your chess pieces.

    Perfect box for your pieces if you don't want to splurge for the really expensive boxes. I've discovered that the Chess Store is the only company that offers this type of box that won't break the bank. If you're on the fence about getting the small or large box... go with the large. Your pieces won't get cramped. I like this box so much I need to order 2 more.

    Great Box, only complaint I have if I’m being very critical is the tolerance is very tight, which is not a bad thing, but it does take some wiggling and maneuvering to get the top off, it sits so flush with the bottom of the box that it is hard to get a finger on it to tip the top off.

    This is a perfect solution for your pieces that you don't want to just toss into a bag, but also aren't luxurious enough to warrant an expensive wooden box.

    Good box, but too small for larger base pieces

    I have a set of Drueke wood pieces with a 4.25” King with a 1.875” base. This box is just a fraction too small to fit all the pieces in. It really needs to be about an inch bigger in all dimensions. I’m just going to buy another and will keep two boxes for the set. I would say if your King is up to 4.25” but with a slightly smaller base than mine it should work. Except for this issue the box is excellent quality and a good value.
