This luxurious chess set includes our Parker Staunton chess pieces handcrafted from boxwood matched with our Black and Ash Burl High Gloss Deluxe Chess Board. Our Parker Staunton is a throwback to the vintage Staunton chess set patterns from over a hundred years ago. The Parker embodies the rich history of Staunton with traditional design elements in every respect from pawn to king. The knight is masterfully carved with shape, features, and detail reminiscent of past chess set masterpieces. The pieces are handcrafted from boxwood and then burnt and engraved to reveal the boxwood underneath creating a unique and beautiful pattern on each piece. This is a 34-piece set that includes two extra queens for pawn promotion. The king is 3.75" tall with a base diameter of 1.625", the perfect size for tournament chess games. Heavily weighted for exceptional stability, the pieces have thick green baize pads for a soft cushion on the chess board. We include a Certificate of Manufacturer so you will always know what the pieces are, when they were made, and where they came from.

Our Black and Ash Burl Deluxe Chess Board made for us by Rechapados Ferrer combines classic design with elegant features creating an eye-catching battlefield for your chess game. This is an inlaid chess board handcrafted from high quality black poplar and ash burl veneer sealed with a high gloss polyurethane finish giving the board a luxurious glass-like finish. A triple-layer delimiter defines the playing field, and a wide frame gives aesthetic balance to the board. The squares are 2” and the footprint of the board is 19.5” square. Four felt pads on the bottom will protect whatever furniture the board sets on.

    I ordered this for my husband birthday/anniversary gift, he has always wanted a really nice set. The board was well pack and the gloss look really comes to life with the chess pieces placed on top, he loved the burnt look of the chess pieces.

    I was a little anxious about ordering something I couldn’t touch. However this chess board is a beautiful center piece in any home. It also crates a nice board to share a cup of coffee and an intellectual battle with your friends or family.

    Superb Chess Set

    This is a superb set, with an unusual design that is very aesthetically appealing and which, while richly detailed, avoids fussiness. It is elegant - bordering on opulent - and very tasteful. The complimentary balance between the pieces of each colour and with the board itself reveals a whole which has been quite exquisitely matched. Quality is outstanding. Indeed the entire ensemble looks far more expensive than is actually the case. Pieces are nicely weighted and easy to handle without fear of dropping. They glide smoothly and softly upon the lacquered board in a very satisfying fashion. Without doubt, this is an heirloom that will move through future generations. Personally, I cannot imagine any high-end chess set justifying its price so easily as this one does, unless a very rare antique, perhaps with historical provenance or heritage. The Chess Store shipped my purchase very quickly, and it was very well packaged; secure and well protected. In short, I could ask no more of any aspect of the entire purchase or the product itself.

    Quality craftsmanship set that's eye catching! A beautiful addition to any room. I would recommend this set to anyone looking to buy a quality chess set. Great service from The Chess Store as they shipped within a day, Fed Ex ground service was at a snails pace as usual. Would suggest an alternative shipping method for future orders.

    Where are the numbers and letters?!

    No question, this is a one of the most beautiful chess sets I've seen. Beautiful design, the figures are of the right size and weight. Just as you see i the pictures. I bought this set for as agift to a friends for his housewarming. All was good except...where are the numbers and letters on the board?! I am Armenian and we are big into chess at home, and not having letters and numbers on the board makes this chess look like a piece of furniture. Again the set is beautiful, but that small detail of not having the numbers and letters on it is what keeps me away from buying it for me or my other friends.

    It was a gift, my friend loves it, full points for quality. My only negative was that when I first signed in to the site its offered me a 10% discount that somehow expired before I could complete my purchase. They should really last at least that long. Excellent set though.

    If your looking for a display Chess set, this one is beautiful. It is fairly light and the board is thin. Experienced chess players ( you probably aren't looking at this set anyway ), would probably prefer one of their Brass metal or gold silver sets. This set is inexpensive & very affordable. Purchased as a gift for beginner player, he really loved it.
