Inspired by and named for the magnificent stallion of Simon Bolivar, the Palomo is a large club size chess set with a contemporary Staunton design unique from any other in our collection. The black pieces are made from African padauk, one of the most beautiful woods in the world, while the white pieces are made from the highest quality boxwood and polished to a fine luster. Each piece is thoughtfully designed to create a cohesive collection of pieces from king to pawn. The columns have a graceful profile that curve out beyond the layered collars creating a unique and elegant appearance. The knights are truly spectacular with a mane that gracefully flows down the back of the neck in every direction. The king is 4.4" tall with a 1.9" base and has as traditional cross formée finial. The pieces are heavily weighted and have green baize pads for a soft feel on the chess board. We include two extra queens for pawn promotion and a certificate of authenticity so that you will always know where it came from and what it is.
Our exclusive Padauk and Bird's-eye Maple Chess Board was specifically designed to pair with our padauk chessmen. This is a handcrafted inlaid chess board made for us by Rechapados Ferrer. The quality of both the materials and workmanship in the construction of the chess board are simply unmatched. The squares are 60mm (~2.375") and the overall size of the board is 23.5" and .5" thick. A wide black inlay border accentuates the playing area enhancing the rich colors of the African padauk and bird's-eye maple and a black stained molded edge adds an elegant touch to the chess board. The wood is sealed with a satin polyurethane finish that gives the board a soft shine.
