These are Excellent Staunton Chess Pieces. The height of the King, the hefty weight of the pieces and the design of the Knights, are all very impressive for such a, more than reasonable, price. This set is stable and DURABLE. It will hold up to practically any piece-smashing abuse imaginable and this makes it perfect for kids (and some adults) who were trained on how to move by modeling the actors in Searching for Bobby Fischer. Better than I expected!
I am not a chess player. My college student grandson requested a chess set. So I surfed the net and found The Chess Store. Even though I don't play the descriptions of all items was so clear I felt confident in ordering what I did. The chess pieces are absolutely beautiful - well made and clearly heavy pieces that will play well. I also purchased a roll up vinyl board. Everything looks beautiful when put together. And when not in use I bought the vinyl bag that stores the pieces as well as the vinyl board. I can't wait to give this set to him.

Conqueror Chess Set
This set would be an outstanding value at twice the price. I was looking for a tournament set with a robust Rook with a wide base. Many of the sets out there have great looking knights and bishops and then a dainty Rook. Not this set!! Nicely weighted, and the plastic is so dense that it feels more like a glass composite. Needless to say, I am recommending this set to everyone and the set gets lots of envious looks and comments from other players.....
