This handsome and sturdy mahogany chess box is the perfect chess box for storing your chessmen. It has an old world-charm with its lock and key for securing the lid and an emerald green baize interior with a divider in the center for separating the two colors. This is an inlaid wood box with a beautiful mahogany veneer on the outside finished with a satin polyurethane for a rich shine. High quality brass plated hinges and lock add to the attractiveness of this box. The bottom of the box is covered in with black felt to protect furniture where it might sit. This box is designed for small sets and will hold a set of typical 4" or smaller (king height) wood chessmen plus 2 spare queens.

Outside Dimensions: 9.75" x 6.625" x 4.25"

True to size of measurements. Packed extremely good. Locking mechanism very good. Two back hinges designed perfect with stops so cover does not fall backward. My 3 3/4" king fits (Deluxe Old Staunton ebony/boxwood set) with room to spare. The king, queen, bishop, knight, rook and two pawns can stand up in their respective compartments with the rest of the pawns laying down along side. I give it 5 stars.

Very good quality box. The locking mechanism is very flimly and it won't be hard to break it but overall it's a very good box.

I love it. I should have bought one a little larger. The fastener is a little flimsy. I would recommend it to others. Not finding a board I have decided to build one with 2 inch squares. The ceramic chess set that my mother made for me when I graduated from high school in 1959 fits in it rather tight
