This unique and handsome Staunton design has since become a favorite for chess players around the world and one of our most popular chess sets. I never write reviews for things I purchase online, but I feel compelled to gush about this set after having had it for a few months now. Everything was delivered promptly, email communication was excellent, and it was in perfect condition upon arrival. I haven't had the 'kid opening presents on Christmas' feeling in a long time, but I did as I took the board and pieces out of their bags and set everything up for the first time. This is a gorgeous set that I am very proud to own and play with. It will bring out your best game when you play - you know darn well you have to dominate on the home board! I lurked different chess stores online and in person for quality (pricey!) sets for years waiting to find 'the one'. It was very much time to replace my old plastic travel set I'd had for a decade. I love the Yugoslavia Staunton pieces - the contrasting finials atop the Kings, Queens and Bishops are what initially caught my eye, and the Bishops and Knights are subtly unique. Not to knock other sets, but I just had to pass on some sets simply because I felt the Knights were too goofy looking. I was very happy to discover the pieces had heavy, sturdy bases, and that the lacquer on the 'black' pieces was not slathered on excessively to the point where you couldn't see the beautiful wood characteristics. You can, and it's beautiful. I am going to treasure this set for the rest of my life. CheersUnknown
