This chess set package includes our Yugoslavia Staunton Chess Set in ebonized and natural boxwood matched with our Deluxe Walnut Chess Case. Our Yugoslavia Staunton originates from the chess set designed for the 1950 Chess Olympiad held in Dubrovnik,Yugoslavia. This set stands out from other Staunton designs with its opposite color tops on the king, queen, and bishop and the unique and handsome knight with its graceful curves and down-turned head. The ebonized boxwood is jet black with no visible grain just like real ebony while the cream colored natural boxwood is the perfect wood for the white chess pieces. The pieces are individually hand polished and lacquered to a beautiful luster. The king is 3.25" tall and has a base diameter of 1.375" - an ideal size for the game at home. The pieces have thick green baize pads so they slide smoothly across the chess board and are heavily weighted for stability. The Yugoslavia has been favorite with chess players for decades and continues to be one of our most popular chess sets.
Our Deluxe Chess Case has two drawers with individual compartments for storing all 32 chess pieces separately. The compartments are lined on the sides and bottom with a soft beige velour material to protect the pieces from getting scuffed up. The case measures 16.5" square and is 3" tall. The chess board squares are 1.625" and are enclosed by an attractive black border. The sides of the case have an elegant molded profile and the board on top is enclosed by a frame. This chess set will look stunning displayed in your home whether you keep the pieces in the drawer or leave them on the board ready for the next game.
