This one of a kind chess set is named after Hannibal's famous war horse that he rode across the Alps leading his army against the Roman Empire. This chess set is nothing short of extraordinaire taking Staunton to a new level with its artistic design. The knight with its down-turned head that curves to one side and mane flailing out behind its neck creates the image of horse racing into battle. Very few carvers in the world can accurately carve and replicate these complex knights. All of the pieces are beautifully shaped with a unique and elegant profile featuring a series of complex curves down the column. The lathe work is simply extraordinary. This is a large set with a king that is 4.25" tall and has a base of 1.875".
Our Black and Ash Burl Deluxe chess board is a favorite for ebony and boxwood chess sets. The black and golden color of the natural ash burl wood creates a rich looking backdrop with its high gloss glass-like finish. A pinstripe around the playing area along with an extra wide frame adds elegance to an already spectacular chess board. This is an inlaid chess board made for us by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain and the quality of the craftsmanship is unsurpassed.
