With the high quality of the pieces along with its size and weight, our Professional Series Plastic Chess Set is without a doubt the very best value in our store or that you will find anywhere. This is a heavy-duty set with a king measuring 4.125" tall and with a base of 1.875". The pieces are triple weighted with all 34 pieces weighing in at over 4 pounds. The Professional is an attractive Jaques-like Staunton design with a graceful profile and pieces that are big and heavy. The knight has a level of detail that looks great but you won't have to worry about breaking anything off. The queen has an unusually sharp pointed coronet, the rooks are tall and beefy, and the bishops have a large slotted miter. We include two extra queens for pawn promotion. An unbeatable value at $24.95!

Value Triple Weighted Plastic Chess Set

Posted by Pat on 25th Oct 2015

I have recently received two of the value triple weighted sets, one for myself and one for my adult son. The size and extra weight are a joy to play with, the bishops have very nice curvature other bishops do not, and the knights have excellent detail with ears that look good but are molded in such a way that they will not break off. Rooks have good mass, and the pawns are not too narrow in the neck. Time will tell if the glossy finish will last, it looks great now. I have another plastic set with glossy finish that is 35 years old and is still nice, however, it has always been in a personal use environment rather than a club environment. The queen's coronets tips are very pointed and when received 4 of the 8 queens coronet's tips were broken. It took me about 45 minutes to clip the tips and using very fine emery cloth smooth them down, but still leaving them very detailed, they are now great; I am now not afraid of injuring them or myself. This set ranks right there with a more expensive Staunton Hastings plastic set that I have; and has very quickly become one of my favorite sets to play with, it's the one that I am taking on the road.
